Jungle Beach, Unawatuna – A Beautiful Hidden Beach
Hey guys, hope you are doing well. You know, Sri Lanka being an island, has the beach all around the country. But among them, there are number of unusual and uncommon beaches. Today, we will talk about such kind of a beach. And that is Jungle Beach in Unawatuna, Galle.
What is unusual about this beach is, it is covered by a small jungle from the land side. And that is how this place got the name ‘Jungle Beach’. But this is not the only beach that is covered by a jungle. You will find such kind of beaches in Bundala National Park, Yala National Park, Kumana National Park and Wilpattu National Park. But the thing is, you cannot access them very easily like this one for obvious reasons.
Jungle Beach is situated inside Rumassala Sanctuary. Rumassala Hill is connected to the great legend ‘Ramayanaya’. The legend says (not me), Hanumantha (the monkey king) brought part of the Himalayas Hill to Sri Lanka to find herbs in order to heal wounded ‘Lakshman’. And he has accidentally dropped a part of it on Unawatuna area.
Jungle Beach is somewhat long beach and can be accessed from several places through the jungle. Footpaths are created to access the beach.
There is not much long way to walk. You have to step down to reach the beach.
Jungle Beach was a once very secluded beach. But now it is becoming less and less secluded. But still it is a very beautiful beach. The beach, the jungle and the small hills by the sides create a wonderful sight.

Since Jungle Beach is getting foreign travellers attraction gradually, one or two small restaurants can be seen there targeting foreign travellers.
Nice Place to Bath
Jungle Beach is a good place to have a sea bath. But be careful when bathing therein off season. Some recent deaths are also recorded there in the off season. There is no any consistent sea bed with a constant height just like Polhena Beach. So better to avoid bathing there in the off season.
These photos are also taken in an off season.
As I said earlier also Jungle Beach is spread over a large area. So, if you ever visit make sure to walk it all.
How to Reach…?
You have to take a turn from Galle Road (A2 Highway) to reach the Jungle Beach.
IMPORTANT: It can be seen that some irresponsible and selfish people have litter the beach. Please refrain from throwing anything to the beach or to the path of the beach. Take back all that you bring to the beach. If you can’t do that, please don’t visit these places. That is a very kind request.
