Mutukelina Wewa (Another Beautiful Observation Point)
Hi all, hope you are doing well. Since this is the end of the year, you might have travelled recently or you are travelling at the moment or you are planning to travel soon. But if not so, you are doing it wrong. Just go, get out with your family or friends. Have some quality times. Because, being a good employee or making your boss rich are not your life goals.
I also went on a trip recently with my wife and friends. But this time due to budgetary concerns, we have to make it a short and a low cost journey. Therefore, we visited Kandy (Central Province) for two days. Due to some circumstances we couldn’t get any accommodation within the town or nearby town. Our accommodation was 16km away (up to the hills) from the town. But that was the best thing about this journey. It led us to explore some amazing landscapes. Among them, the most attracted place is the observation point at Mutukelina Wewa.
How to reach?
Our guest house was at ‘Moragolla, Pathehewaheta’. This observation point also situated in ‘Pathahewaheta’. The owner of the guest house gave us the hint of this place. This how you can reach the place.
Google map doesn’t show the road up to the Lake. But don’t worry, the road is there. You have to continue along the road. Below is the exact destination, Mutukelina Wewa.
It is recommended to travel with a vehicle due to various reasons. First things is, the buses are very limited on this route. After 6 P.M. it gets lower. And even if you travel by bus, you have to hire a three wheeler to travel the latter part. Anyhow, if you are willing to travel by bus you have to catch a ‘Moragolla’ or ‘Bellwood’ bus. Those can be taken from ‘Goods Shed Bus Stand’. Then you have to get down at the Moragolla bus stand and catch a three wheeler.
I’m not so sure, but I think motor cars with low ground clearance will find it difficult to travel to the very top. Therefore, my recommendation is to avoid cars. You can feel that you will have to put a little extra effort for this journey. But mark my words, that effort it totally worth it.
The interesting thing about the lake is, it is situated on top of a mountain. It is a very small lake.
Of course it is not a very beautiful lake. What is beautiful is the observation point situated by the lake. You can see a summit at the beginning of the above video (on the left side). That is the place I am talking about. But our driver said that the lake is more beautiful when it is full. At the time we were there, the water level is dropped somewhat.
A Beautiful Observation Point
From the lake, you have to climb a little bit more to come to the grassy summit.
Once you are on the top, you will be amazed by the view for sure. You will have a stunning panoramic view of the surround from there.
You will even see the Victoria Reservoir from there. Unfortunately the reservoir was kind of dried up when we were there.:( See the captures below also.
We stayed there a lot of time. Because the place is very calm and relaxing. You may forget all your pains and sorrows for a while. And you may get rid of the tension and stress that bothers you. When we went down, the sun has started setting.
There are several budget accommodations around here. And if you are looking for a 5 star experience, consider this place which situated so close to this observation point.
At the end of the day we had some lovely memories to take with us. Our driver said that there are some other beautiful places around there, but we didn’t have time to visit.:( So that is about another observation point in Sri Lanka. If you have any doubts or if you need further information, please feel free to leave a comment below. I’ll stop for now, see you soon.
